Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs (with Accessed date) or DOIs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is 1.5 spaced; uses a 10-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest.
  • EJKM is an Open Access Journal, licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License. A publication fee of GBP300 is payable only once the paper has been accepted for publication.

Author Guidelines

Content
A paper may comprise empirical studies, using acceptable research strategies including survey, case study, experiment, archival analysis, history and so on; it may contain theoretical studies aimed at advancing current theory or adapting theory to local conditions, or it may arise from theoretical studies aimed at reviewing and/or synthesizing existing theory.

Concepts and underlying principles should be emphasized, with enough background information to orient any reader who is not a specialist in the particular subject area.

Preparation of manuscripts
  • Papers should not exceed 8,000 words in length including abstract, figures, references and appendices. The Abstract should be 300-500 words in length. As well as appearing at the top of your paper, this abstract will be located on the contents screen for readers to peruse before they download the full paper.
  • Papers should be in 10pt with 2.54 cm margins and 1.5 line spacing.  Please use numbered headings and restrict these to a maximum of three levels. Times Roman or Ariel font is acceptable.
  • Papers must have been closely scrutinized for typographical and grammatical errors. If English is not your first language then your paper should be proof-read by an English-speaking person, preferably one with experience of writing for academic use. Spelling should follow the Oxford English Dictionary.
  • Keywords and key phrases. Within the journal website there is a search facility to look for papers that have been published and your keywords and key phrases will be used in conjunction with this. Therefore please include at least six words or short phrases that highlight the topics covered by the paper. Think carefully about your keywords and phrases and do not use overly obvious words/phrases like 'knowledge management'.
  • The Harvard referencing convention is a requirement A full and clear guide can be found at https://library.aru.ac.uk/referencing/harvard.htm Papers not using this version of the Harvard convention will not be published.
  • End notes are not accepted and footnotes are discouraged.
  • Tables, graphs and illustrations should be drawn using a suitable drawing package. Colour may be used. Place all diagrams and tables where you wish them to appear in the paper. Ensure your figures and tables fit within the margins and are resizable without distortion. Diagrams should be inserted as images.

Review procedure
Following Editorial recommendation, papers are submitted to a double-blind review process before publication. Commentary by reviewers will be summarized and sent by email to authors, who can choose to revise their papers in line with these remarks. Revised papers should have Track Changes turned on, and be accompanied by descriptions of the changes, so that the desk-editor can easily see where changes have been made. 

Plagiarism
Identified cases of plagiarism are assessed on their limits. If plagiarism is detected by an editorial board member, a reviewer, editor etc., in any stage of the paper process, before or after acceptance, the author(s) will be in formed and will be asked to rewrite the content or the to fully and accurately cite the references from where the content has been taken. If more than 30% of the paper is plagiarized- the article may be rejected and this will be notified to the author.

Publishing Fee
In accordance with the practice in the open access community authors are asked to pay a nominal sum to publish in EJKM, which is intended to cover some of the costs of publishing. The current publication charge is GBP300 + VAT. This amount is payable only after the paper has been accepted for publication and there is no charge for paper submission. There is no charge to access the journals on screen or to print or download papers.

This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.
